Independent safety studies, conducted by the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey and reviewed by senior researchers at NYU, prove that the BriteSmile professional teeth whitening treatment is safe, while numerous clinical studies performed by BriteSmile and others show that our whitening results confirm an average of 8 or more shades lighter and even higher for individuals with darker teeth.
The BriteSmile Teeth Whitening Process
The patented BriteSmile whitening treatment consists of a lamp filtered to emit light in the blue-green region of the spectrum (approximately 400-500 nanometers) and a patented delivery device, which illuminates all smile teeth at once.
The BriteSmile Light
The BriteSmile light system is patented and available exclusively at BriteSmile whitening spas and through our Associated Centre network. Due to its unique design, our light is able to whiten all "smile line" teeth simultaneously and uniformly, with an amazing 8+ shades of improvement on the Vita-Pan shade guide. Nothing has been proven to whiten teeth faster, easier, and more effectively. Beware of imitators that may claim they work as well as BriteSmile. Some may use less commonly accepted shading scales and/or lack independent clinical research to back their claims.
You can see the complete BriteSmile safety study, review some of the highlights below or view our many other clinical studies in our Online Scientific Library:
- A pre-clinical study on the effect of BriteSmile on hardness of tooth enamel and restorative materials was conducted by the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. The Study concluded: "The results of this study indicate that the BriteSmile Teeth Whitening system will not cause softening of enamel and composite materials tested".
- The findings of the pre-clinical microhardness study were confirmed by a Scanning Electron Microscopic (SEM). The study's conclusions stated that: "The data indicates that the BriteSmile Whitening System did not cause structural or morphological changes of enamel, and it is therefore concluded that the procedures involved are not caustic or corrosive".
- Senior researchers at New York University reviewed the data from the SEM and pre-clinical microhardness studies. The review confirmed the findings of the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey researchers. Finding no change in surface morphology and hardness of the BriteSmile treated specimens when compared with untreated controls. The study concluded that: "The results indicate that the BriteSmile treatment is safe towards enamel and is not corrosive or caustic".
- A clinical study was conducted by investigators at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey to evaluate the clinical safety and efficacy of the BriteSmile system. Fifty healthy subjects were selected to participate in the multi-centre study. The clinical study found that all subjects had a significant improvement in tooth color, with an average shade change of 8.1 tabs. Additionally, clinical examinations showed all soft and hard tissues were within normal limits.
- A study by the prestigious Forsyth Institute also confirmed the 8+ shades average improvement achieved using the BriteSmile process.
- A study conducted at Loma Linda University and School of Dentistry confirmed that BriteSmile is completely safe for young adults 14+, paving the way for BriteSmile to become the method of choice for removing stains associated with orthodontic treatment. Once again, efficacy in excess of 8 shades in the Vita-Pan scale was confirmed.
